Campfire Rice Krispies Treats Recipe

  • Author: lilan
  • Total Time: 40 minutes
  • Yield: 12 servings 1x

Description

Campfire Rice Krispies Treats offer a classic twist on the traditional marshmallow and cereal snack, perfect for roasting over an open fire to achieve a golden, toasty finish. These treats combine melted butter, marshmallows, and crispy rice cereal, pressed into a pan, cut into squares, and then skewered for a fun campfire experience.

Ingredients

Scale

For the Treats

  • 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, plus more for greasing the pan
  • 2 (12-ounce) bags marshmallows
  • 1/4 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 10 cups Rice Krispies cereal

For Roasting

  • Skewers

Instructions

  1. Prepare the pan: Grease a 13″ x 9″ baking pan with butter to prevent sticking and set aside for later.
  2. Melt butter and marshmallows: In a large pot over medium heat, melt 1 cup of unsalted butter. Add the marshmallows and kosher salt to the pot, stirring continuously until the marshmallows are fully melted and the mixture is smooth, which should take about 5 to 8 minutes.
  3. Mix in cereal: Remove the pot from heat. Immediately fold in the Rice Krispies cereal until all pieces are evenly coated with the melted marshmallow mixture.
  4. Press into pan: Pour the mixture into the prepared pan and use a silicone or metal spatula coated with cooking spray to tightly pack and smooth the top of the mixture evenly across the pan to create a uniform thickness.
  5. Cool and cut: Allow the treats to cool completely in the pan until they are firm enough to cut. Once cooled, cut into 12 equal pieces.
  6. Skewer and roast: Pierce each treat with a skewer. Hold the skewered treats over an open campfire and roast until they turn golden brown on the outside, which should take about 2 minutes, turning as needed to toast evenly.

Notes

  • Use silicone or metal spatulas coated with cooking spray to prevent sticking while pressing the mixture in the pan.
  • Roast the treats carefully over the fire to avoid burning; a light golden toast ensures the best flavor and texture.
  • Make sure to let the treats cool completely before cutting and skewering to maintain shape and prevent mess.
  • For a more festive twist, consider adding chocolate chips or sprinkles mixed in with the cereal.
