Description

These Smash Burger Tacos creatively blend the juicy, crispy goodness of classic smash burgers with the convenience and fun of handheld tacos. Featuring a tangy burger sauce, melted American cheese, and crunchy pickles, they’re a perfect meal for burger lovers looking for a twist.

Ingredients

Scale

Burger Sauce

  • 1/4 cup mayonnaise
  • 2 tablespoons ketchup
  • 1 tablespoon sweet pickle relish
  • 1 tablespoon yellow mustard
  • 1 teaspoon hot sauce

Smash Burger Tacos

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 6 (5-inch) flour tortillas
  • 2 teaspoons store-bought or homemade burger seasoning
  • Kosher salt, to taste
  • 6 tablespoons neutral oil, divided (such as vegetable or canola oil)
  • 6 slices American cheese, divided
  • 18 thin bread-and-butter pickle slices
  • 1 cup shredded iceberg lettuce
  • 3 tablespoons chopped yellow onion
  • White sesame seeds, for garnish

Instructions

  1. Make Burger Sauce: In a small bowl, combine mayonnaise, ketchup, sweet pickle relish, yellow mustard, and hot sauce. Stir until thoroughly mixed. This sauce can be made up to 3 days in advance and kept covered in the refrigerator.
  2. Prepare Beef and Tortillas: Divide the ground beef into six portions, each about 2 1/2 ounces. Place each portion on a 5-inch flour tortilla and flatten the beef evenly with a fork, leaving a 1/2-inch border around the edge. Sprinkle 1/2 teaspoon of burger seasoning and a pinch of kosher salt over each beef layer.
  3. Cook Patties: Heat 2 tablespoons of neutral oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat, swirling to coat the pan. Place two tortillas beef-side down into the skillet. Press down firmly with a sturdy spatula or burger press to create a flat patty. Cook without moving for 2 to 3 minutes until browned and cooked through.
  4. Flip and Add Cheese: Flip the tacos carefully, then top each with a slice of American cheese. Cook for about 1 minute more, until the cheese is slightly melted. Transfer the cooked tacos to a baking sheet. Repeat this process with the remaining four tortillas, adding more oil as needed.
  5. Assemble Tacos: Spoon a generous amount of burger sauce over each taco. Top with three pickle slices, shredded iceberg lettuce, chopped yellow onion, and a sprinkle of white sesame seeds for garnish.

Notes

  • For extra crispiness, press down firmly when cooking to get a nice sear on the beef.
  • Store leftover burger sauce in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
  • Use freshly chopped onions and lettuce for optimal crunch and freshness.
  • Serve immediately for best texture, as the tortillas may soften if left too long.
