  • Author: lilan
  • Total Time: 25 minutes
  • Yield: 6 servings (12 rangoon pieces) 1x
  • Diet: Gluten Free

Description

These Gluten-Free Crab Rangoon are crispy, golden fried wontons filled with a creamy, flavorful crab mixture. Perfect as an appetizer or snack, they combine smooth cream cheese, tangy crème fraîche, and savory crab meat wrapped in gluten-free wonton wrappers, then fried to perfection for a delightful crunch.

Ingredients

Scale

Filling

  • 8 ounces cream cheese (softened)
  • 1 1/2 tablespoons powdered sugar
  • 1 container (8 ounces) crème fraîche
  • 1 1/2 tablespoons tamari (or gluten-free soy sauce)
  • 1 tablespoon gluten-free Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 clove garlic (minced)
  • 8 ounces canned lump crab meat (drained)
  • 1 tablespoon chopped scallions (optional)

Assembly

  • 6 gluten-free wonton wrappers

For Frying

  • Oil (for frying, enough to deep fry)

Optional

  • Preferred sauce for dipping

Instructions

  1. Mix filling: In a bowl, combine the softened cream cheese, powdered sugar, crème fraîche, tamari, gluten-free Worcestershire sauce, and minced garlic. Stir the mixture until it becomes smooth and well blended. Gently fold in the drained lump crab meat and chopped scallions, taking care not to break up the crab too much, ensuring an even and creamy filling.
  2. Assemble wontons: Lay the gluten-free wonton wrappers flat on a clean surface. Keep a small bowl of lukewarm water nearby. Dip your fingers into the water and moisten the edges of each wrapper. Place about 1 teaspoon of the crab filling in the center of each wrapper. Fold the wrapper over the filling to form an envelope shape, pinching the edges firmly to seal completely, preventing oil from leaking during frying.
  3. Heat oil: Pour enough oil into a heavy-bottomed skillet or deep fryer to submerge the wontons. Heat the oil to 350°F (175°C), ensuring it is hot enough to create a crispy exterior without soaking up excess oil.
  4. Fry wontons: Carefully add the assembled wontons into the hot oil in batches, avoiding overcrowding. Fry each side for about 2 minutes or until they turn a beautiful golden brown and become crispy. Use a slotted spoon to turn them and remove them when each side is evenly cooked.
  5. Drain excess oil: Transfer the fried wontons using the slotted spoon onto a plate lined with paper towels to drain any excess oil, ensuring they stay crispy and not greasy.
  6. Serve: Serve the gluten-free crab rangoon warm with your preferred dipping sauce, such as sweet chili or soy sauce, for an irresistible appetizer experience.

Notes

  • Ensure the cream cheese is softened to make mixing easier and achieve a smooth filling.
  • Use gluten-free wonton wrappers to keep the recipe gluten-free and safe for those with gluten intolerance.
  • Be careful to seal the wonton edges well to avoid filling leakage during frying.
  • Maintain the oil temperature at 350°F for the best crispy texture and avoid sogginess.
  • Adjust the filling quantities according to the number of wrappers and servings needed.
