Ingredients
Scale
Chocolate Mixture
- 1/2 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
- 1/2 cup milk (divided from total)
Wet Ingredients
- 1/2 cup milk (remaining)
- 3 1/2 tablespoons melted butter
- 1 1/4 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 2 large eggs
Dry Ingredients
- 1 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
- 5 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
Instructions
- Melt chocolate: In a microwave-safe bowl, combine the semi-sweet chocolate chips with 1/2 cup of milk. Microwave for 25 seconds, stir, and continue microwaving in short intervals until the mixture is fully melted and smooth.
- Whisk wet ingredients: Add the remaining 1/2 cup milk, melted butter, vanilla extract, and eggs to the melted chocolate mixture. Whisk thoroughly until smooth and fully combined.
- Whisk dry ingredients: In a separate bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, baking powder, unsweetened cocoa powder, and granulated sugar until evenly mixed.
- Combine ingredients: Gently stir the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients, mixing just until combined to avoid overmixing which can make the waffles tough.
- Prepare waffle iron: Preheat your waffle iron according to manufacturer instructions. Lightly spray or brush the iron with oil or nonstick cooking spray to prevent sticking.
- Fill and cook waffles: Spoon about 1/3 to 1/2 cup of batter into each section of the waffle iron. Close the iron and cook for 4-7 minutes or until the waffles are crisp on the outside and cooked through.
- Serve: Carefully remove the waffles and serve warm with your favorite toppings such as syrup, whipped cream, or fresh berries if desired.
Notes
- Do not overmix the batter to keep waffles tender and fluffy.
- Use nonstick spray or brush the waffle iron well to prevent sticking.
- Cooking times may vary depending on the waffle iron model.
- These waffles are best enjoyed warm right after cooking.
- You can add nuts or chocolate chips into the batter for extra texture.
