A white plate holds a slice of layered cake with two visible layers of light golden sponge cake and a thick middle layer of smooth, fluffy chocolate mousse that also covers the top of the slice. The top chocolate mousse layer is sprinkled with dark chocolate crumbs. To the right, more cake with chocolate mousse is partially visible on another white plate. On the left side of the image, part of a Nutella jar is shown against a light blue background, and the whole scene rests on a white marbled surface. Ingredients

  • 3 cups cold heavy cream
  • 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 16 ounces mascarpone cheese
  • 2 (13-ounce) containers store-bought Nutella
  • 48 ladyfingers
  • 3 cups cold espresso or strongly brewed coffee
  • 2 tablespoons Frangelico
  • 2 tablespoons espresso powder

Instructions

  1. Step 1: In the large bowl of a stand mixer fitted with the whisk attachment (or using a large bowl and handheld mixer), beat the cold heavy cream and kosher salt on medium speed until soft peaks form. Be careful not to whip to stiff peaks.
  2. Step 2: In a separate large bowl, mix the mascarpone cheese and Nutella until smooth. Add about one-third of the whipped cream to the mascarpone mixture and gently fold to combine, then fold this mixture into the remaining whipped cream until fully incorporated.
  3. Step 3: In a shallow dish or long container large enough to fit ladyfingers, combine the cold espresso and Frangelico. Quickly dip each ladyfinger into the coffee mixture for about 1 second, then line the bottom of a 13″ x 9″ pan with the dipped cookies in two rows of 12 ladyfingers arranged vertically.
  4. Step 4: Spread half of the Nutella cream mixture evenly over the first layer of ladyfingers. Repeat the dipping process with the remaining ladyfingers and place them on top of the cream layer. Finish by spreading the remaining cream mixture over the second layer of ladyfingers.
  5. Step 5: Refrigerate the assembled Nutellamisu for at least 3 hours, or preferably overnight, to allow the flavors to meld and the dessert to set. Before serving, dust the top generously with espresso powder.

Tips & Variations

  • For a boozy variation, add a tablespoon of coffee liqueur alongside the Frangelico in the espresso mixture.
  • Use freshly brewed espresso if possible for the richest flavor.
  • Make sure your heavy cream is very cold to achieve the best whipped texture.
  • For a gluten-free option, use gluten-free ladyfingers or substitute with thin gluten-free cookies.

Storage

Store Nutellamisu covered in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Reheat is not recommended as this dessert is best enjoyed chilled. If you want to prepare it ahead, assembling it the day before serving yields the best texture and flavor.

How to Serve

The image shows a close-up of a smooth, thick layer of light brown chocolate mousse spread evenly in a glass dish with a white marbled background. The mousse is textured with soft, wavy swirls, and a fine dusting of dark cocoa powder is being sifted over the top from a small metal sieve held above it. The dark brown cocoa powder contrasts with the creamy, pale brown mousse, creating a rich and inviting look. Photo taken with an iphone --ar 4:5 --v 7

FAQs

Can I make Nutellamisu without a stand mixer?

Yes, you can use a handheld mixer or even whisk by hand, but it will take more time and effort to achieve soft peaks in the cream.

Can I substitute mascarpone with cream cheese?

While cream cheese can be used in a pinch, mascarpone offers a lighter and creamier texture that is key to an authentic tiramisu experience.

Description

Nutellamisu is a luscious twist on the classic tiramisu, combining the rich, creamy flavors of mascarpone and Nutella with the boldness of espresso and a hint of Frangelico liqueur. This no-bake dessert features layers of coffee-soaked ladyfingers and a fluffy Nutella-infused mascarpone cream, chilled to perfection for a decadent treat that’s perfect for any occasion.

Ingredients

Scale

Cream Mixture

  • 3 cups cold heavy cream
  • 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 16 ounces mascarpone cheese
  • 2 containers (13 ounces each) store-bought Nutella

Ladyfinger Layer

  • 48 ladyfingers
  • 3 cups cold espresso or strongly brewed coffee
  • 2 tablespoons Frangelico liqueur

Topping

  • 2 tablespoons espresso powder (for dusting)

Instructions

  1. Beat Cream: In the large bowl of a stand mixer fitted with the whisk attachment, or using a large bowl with a handheld mixer, beat the cold heavy cream and kosher salt on medium speed until soft peaks form. Be careful not to overbeat to stiff peaks as this will affect the texture.
  2. Prepare Mascarpone Mixture: In a separate large bowl, combine the mascarpone cheese and Nutella until smooth and well blended. Gently fold about one-third of the whipped cream into the mascarpone and Nutella mixture to lighten it. Then fold this combined mixture back into the remaining whipped cream until fully incorporated and creamy.
  3. Assemble Ladyfingers: In a shallow dish or long container, mix the cold espresso and Frangelico. Quickly dip each ladyfinger into the coffee mixture for about 1 second—just enough to soak but not soggy. Arrange the dipped ladyfingers in two vertical rows of twelve in the bottom of a 13″ x 9″ pan to form the first layer.
  4. Layer Cream: Spread half of the Nutella mascarpone cream evenly over the ladyfinger layer. Repeat by dipping and laying down the remaining ladyfingers, then spread the remaining cream on top to create the second layer.
  5. Chill: Refrigerate the assembled Nutellamisu for at least 3 hours to allow the flavors to meld and the dessert to set properly. It can be kept overnight for even better results.
  6. Dust and Serve: Before serving, dust the top generously with espresso powder to add a final aromatic touch.

Notes

  • Make sure the espresso or coffee is completely cooled before dipping ladyfingers to prevent them from becoming too soggy.
  • For a non-alcoholic version, omit the Frangelico or substitute it with a coffee or hazelnut-flavored syrup.
  • Use cold heavy cream and mascarpone to ensure the cream whips properly and the dessert sets well.
  • For best texture, dip ladyfingers quickly to avoid them absorbing too much liquid.
  • Allow the Nutellamisu to chill overnight if possible; it enhances the flavors and texture beautifully.
