St. Patrick’s Day Dessert Cups Recipe

  • Author: lilan
  • Total Time: 45 minutes
  • Yield: 6 dessert cups 1x

Description

Celebrate St. Patrick’s Day with these festive and refreshing Lime Gelatin Dessert Cups. Layers of tangy lime gelatin alternate with fluffy sweetened whipped cream, creating a delightful treat that’s easy to prepare and perfect for any party or gathering. Garnished with optional green sprinkles, lime zest, or crushed green candy for a playful touch.

Ingredients

Scale

Gelatin Layer

  • 1 box lime gelatin (6 oz / 170 g)
  • 2 cups boiling water (480 ml)
  • 2 cups cold water (480 ml)

Whipped Cream Layer

  • 1 ½ cups heavy whipping cream (360 ml)
  • 3 tablespoons powdered sugar

Optional Toppings

  • Green sprinkles
  • Lime zest
  • Crushed green candy

Instructions

  1. Dissolve Gelatin: In a medium bowl, combine the lime gelatin with the boiling water and stir until it’s completely dissolved. Then add the cold water and mix well. Let the mixture cool to room temperature before proceeding.
  2. Set First Gelatin Layer: Pour a thin layer of the cooled gelatin into the bottom of each parfait glass. Refrigerate for 20 to 30 minutes until the gelatin is set but still slightly wobbly, ensuring a nice base for the layers.
  3. Prepare Whipped Cream: In a separate mixing bowl, beat the heavy whipping cream and powdered sugar together until soft peaks form. This sweetened whipped cream will add a creamy contrast to the tart gelatin.
  4. Assemble Layers: Spoon or pipe a layer of whipped cream over the set gelatin layer. Repeat alternating layers of gelatin and whipped cream until the glasses are filled, finishing with a final whipped cream layer on top.
  5. Add Toppings and Chill: Garnish the dessert cups with green sprinkles, lime zest, or crushed green candy for a festive touch. Serve chilled for a refreshing treat.

Notes

  • For best results, ensure the gelatin is cooled but not fully set when pouring the first layer to help layers adhere well.
  • Use a piping bag for the whipped cream to create neat, even layers.
  • These dessert cups can be prepared a few hours in advance and stored covered in the refrigerator.
  • To make it lighter, substitute half-and-half for heavy cream but the texture will be less fluffy.
