- 4 slices of turkey
Cheese
- 4 slices of Swiss cheese

- 2 large eggs
- 1/4 cup of milk
- A pinch of salt and pepper

- Powdered sugar (for dusting)
- Raspberry jam (for serving)
Instructions
- Assemble the sandwiches: Place 2 slices of ham, 2 slices of turkey, and 2 slices of Swiss cheese between two slices of white bread. Press the sandwiches gently to compact and optionally trim the crusts.
- Prepare the egg mixture: In a shallow dish, whisk together the eggs, milk, salt, and pepper until well combined.
- Melt the butter: Heat 2 tablespoons of unsalted butter in a large skillet over medium heat until melted and hot.
- Coat the sandwiches: Dip each assembled sandwich into the egg mixture, making sure to coat both sides thoroughly.
- Cook the sandwiches: Place the soaked sandwiches in the skillet and cook each side for 3-4 minutes or until golden brown and cooked through.
- Drain excess butter: Transfer the cooked sandwiches to a paper towel-lined plate to remove excess butter.
- Garnish and slice: Lightly dust the sandwiches with powdered sugar and slice them diagonally for serving.
- Serve with jam: Serve the Monte Cristo sandwiches hot with raspberry jam on the side for dipping.
Notes
- For a crispier sandwich, cook over medium-low heat to ensure the cheese melts without burning the bread.
- You can substitute white bread with brioche or challah for a richer flavor.
- Raspberry jam can be swapped with strawberry or apricot preserves based on preference.
- Trim crusts for a neater presentation but it’s optional.
- Serve immediately for best texture and flavor as the sandwich may become soggy if left to sit.
