Cookies:
- 1/2 cup salted butter (softened)
- 1 cup powdered sugar
- 1/2 cup vegetable oil
- 1 large egg
- 1 teaspoon clear vanilla flavoring
- 3 cups cake flour
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1 teaspoon cream of tartar
Frosting:
- 1/2 cup shortening
- 3 cups powdered sugar
- 1 teaspoon clear vanilla flavoring
- 4 tablespoons heavy cream or milk
- pinch of salt (optional)
- Sprinkles
Instructions
- Cookies – Beat softened butter and powdered sugar until fluffy.
- Frosting – Beat shortening, powdered sugar, and vanilla; add cream until smooth.
Add eggs, oil, and vanilla flavoring; beat until combined.
Sift together dry ingredients, mix into butter mixture.
Chill dough for at least 1 hour.
Preheat oven to 375°F.
Roll out dough to 1/2″ thickness between parchment paper.
Cut out cookie shapes.
Bake for 8 minutes, until barely colored on the bottom.
Add food coloring, if desired.
Spread frosting on cooled cookies, top with sprinkles.
