Ingredients
Scale
Tikka Masala Spread
- 1–2 tbsp softened butter
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 tsp garam masala
- 2 tsp chili powder
- 0.5 tsp paprika
- 0.5 tsp ground cumin
- 1 tsp ground coriander
- 0.5 tsp salt
Sandwich
- 4 slices bread
- Butter, for cooking
- Slices of cheese (2-4 slices, depending on preference)
Instructions
- Prepare the tikka masala spread. In a small bowl, thoroughly mix the softened butter with minced garlic, garam masala, chili powder, paprika, ground cumin, ground coriander, and salt until well combined to form a flavorful tikka masala butter spread.
- Heat the skillet. Place a skillet over low to medium heat and add a generous amount of butter, adjusting the quantity based on how rich and buttery you want your sandwich to be.
- Assemble the sandwich in the skillet. Place two slices of bread in the skillet. On one slice, layer 1 or 2 slices of cheese. On the other slice, spread a layer of the prepared tikka masala butter spread evenly, controlling the amount to your spice preference.
- Combine and cook the sandwich. Flip the slice of bread with the tikka masala spread over the cheese-topped slice to form a sandwich. Lower the heat to medium-low and cover the pan to help the cheese melt evenly and the spices infuse the bread. Monitor frequently to avoid burning.
- Flip and finish cooking. Once the bottom is golden brown, carefully flip the sandwich and cook the other side until golden brown as well. Press gently with a spatula to ensure even cooking and good contact with the skillet.
- Serve. Remove the sandwich from the skillet, cut it diagonally, and serve immediately while warm and melty for the best texture and flavor.
Notes
- Use any cheese that melts well such as cheddar, mozzarella, or a mild monterey jack for best results.
- Adjust the spice levels in the tikka masala spread by reducing or increasing chili powder according to your heat preference.
- Covering the pan during cooking helps the cheese melt properly and infuses the bread with the tikka masala flavors.
- Serve with a side of yogurt or chutney to complement the spicy flavors.
