Description

This Ham and Cheese Croissant Casserole is a warm, comforting breakfast or brunch dish that combines buttery croissants with savory deli ham and gooey mozzarella cheese. Baked in a creamy egg mixture infused with Italian seasoning, it creates a satisfying meal perfect for family gatherings or a leisurely weekend morning.

Ingredients

Scale

Main Ingredients

  • 5 croissants, cut into 1-inch pieces
  • ½ pound thin sliced deli ham, cut into 1-inch pieces
  • 8 ounce package shredded mozzarella (divided use)
  • ¼ cup heavy cream
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • ½ teaspoon dried Italian seasoning
  • 3 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon sea salt
  • ½ teaspoon freshly ground black pepper

Garnish

  • Dried parsley (optional garnish)

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and spray an 11×7-inch baking dish with nonstick cooking spray or coat it with butter to prevent sticking.
  2. Combine Croissants, Ham, and Cheese: Place the croissant pieces, deli ham pieces, and half of the shredded mozzarella cheese into the prepared baking dish. Stir gently to evenly distribute the ham and cheese among the croissants.
  3. Mix Egg Mixture: In a small bowl, whisk together the heavy cream, whole milk, dried Italian seasoning, eggs, sea salt, and freshly ground black pepper until well combined.
  4. Pour Mixture Over Croissants: Pour the egg mixture evenly over the croissant, ham, and cheese mixture in the baking dish. Press down lightly on the top to help the bread absorb the liquid.
  5. Add Remaining Cheese: Sprinkle the remaining shredded mozzarella cheese evenly over the top of the casserole.
  6. Cover and Bake: Cover the baking dish with nonstick foil and bake in the preheated oven for 30 minutes to set the casserole through.
  7. Uncover and Finish Baking: Remove the foil and continue baking for an additional 10 minutes or until the top is lightly golden and bubbly.
  8. Serve: Remove from the oven and serve immediately, garnished with dried parsley if desired.

Notes

  • For best results, use fresh croissants to ensure a flaky texture.
  • The casserole can be assembled a day ahead and refrigerated overnight before baking.
  • Substitute mozzarella with other cheeses like Swiss or cheddar for different flavor profiles.
  • Adjust seasoning to taste, especially salt and pepper, depending on the saltiness of your ham.
  • Leftovers can be refrigerated and reheated in the oven for a crispy finish.
