Instructions
- Combine Ingredients: In a large bowl, whisk together all the base ingredients and any additional flavor components until smooth. For the fruit version, blend the mixture thoroughly in a high-powered blender or food processor to ensure even consistency; for other flavors, whisking by hand achieves the ideal texture.
- Chill the Mixture: Make sure the yogurt mixture’s temperature is between 40-45°F (4-7°C). If it’s warmer, cover the bowl tightly with plastic wrap flush against the surface and place in the freezer for 15-20 minutes to cool without freezing.
- Churn: Pour the cold mixture into a well-prepped ice cream maker bowl (pre-frozen as per manufacturer’s instructions). Churn the mixture for 15-25 minutes until it resembles soft-serve ice cream texture. If you don’t have an ice cream maker, transfer the mixture to a freezer-safe container.
- Freeze to Firm: Place the churned frozen yogurt or the container in the freezer and freeze for at least 4 hours or overnight until fully firm. If no ice cream maker was used, stir the mixture thoroughly every 30 minutes during the first 4 hours to maintain creamy texture and prevent ice crystals.
- Soften Before Serving: Before serving, remove the frozen yogurt from the freezer 15-20 minutes to soften slightly for a scoopable and creamy consistency.
Notes
- Using full-fat dairy products improves creaminess; coconut milk is a good non-dairy alternative.
- The sweetness level can be adjusted by varying the honey amount or substituting a natural sugar-free option.
- If using frozen fruit, blending well ensures smooth texture without chunks.
- Stirring periodically when freezing without an ice cream maker is essential to avoid ice curing.
- An ice cream maker is recommended for optimal creamy texture but is not required.
