  • Yield: 12 sliders 1x

Description

These French Dip Sliders are a delicious and easy-to-make appetizer or meal, featuring tender roast beef, caramelized onions, and melted provolone cheese on soft Hawaiian sweet rolls. Baked to perfection with a flavorful butter and onion soup topping and served with a savory au jus dipping sauce, these sliders offer a perfect blend of hearty flavors and satisfying textures.

Ingredients

Scale

Sliders

  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 1 medium onion, sliced thin
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon pepper
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 12 Hawaiian sweet rolls
  • 12 slices deli roast beef
  • 12 slices provolone cheese

Butter Topping

  • 3 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
  • 2 tablespoons onion soup mix (such as Lipton)

Au Jus Sauce

  • 1 packet au jus mix
  • 3 cups water

Garnish

  • Fresh chopped parsley (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat and Prepare Baking Dish: Preheat your oven to 375°F. Spray a 9×13 inch baking dish with cooking spray or line it with parchment paper to prevent sticking.
  2. Caramelize Onions: In a medium skillet, melt 2 tablespoons of unsalted butter over medium heat. Add the thinly sliced onions, garlic powder, pepper, and salt. Sauté the mixture until the onions become tender and caramelized, stirring occasionally to avoid burning.
  3. Prepare the Rolls: Carefully slice the Hawaiian sweet rolls horizontally along the middle, creating a top and bottom half. Remove the top half and set aside.
  4. Assemble the Sliders: Place the bottom halves of the rolls in the prepared baking dish evenly. Layer the slices of deli roast beef over the rolls, followed by the caramelized onions. Then add a layer of provolone cheese slices on top of the onions.
  5. Add the Top Layer: Place the top halves of the sweet rolls over the cheese layer, covering the sliders completely.
  6. Prepare Butter Topping: In a small bowl, whisk together the melted 3 tablespoons unsalted butter and 2 tablespoons onion soup mix until well combined.
  7. Brush and Bake: Evenly brush the butter and onion soup mixture over the entire top layer of the rolls. Cover the baking dish with aluminum foil and bake for 15 minutes. After 15 minutes, remove the foil and continue baking until the cheese has melted and the tops are golden brown, approximately 5-10 more minutes.
  8. Prepare Au Jus Sauce: While the sliders bake, combine 3 cups of water and one packet of au jus mix in a small saucepan. Bring the mixture to a boil over medium-high heat, then reduce to a simmer and cook until the sauce thickens slightly.
  9. Serve: Once baked, slice the sliders into individual portions. Serve warm with the au jus dipping sauce on the side. Garnish with fresh chopped parsley if desired for a touch of color and freshness.

Notes

  • Use Hawaiian sweet rolls for soft, slightly sweet sliders that complement the savory flavors.
  • Make sure to caramelize the onions slowly to develop deep flavor without burning.
  • The au jus can be prepared ahead and kept warm until serving.
  • These sliders are perfect for parties, game days, or a cozy dinner.
  • For a spicier kick, add a dash of cayenne pepper to the butter topping.
