Description

Delicious and easy-to-make Cinnamon French Toast Sticks are perfect for a comforting breakfast or snack. Made with thick slices of bread coated with a cinnamon-sugar mixture and pan-fried to golden perfection, these sticks are served with optional maple syrup for dipping.

Ingredients

Scale

Main Ingredients

  • 4 thick slices white bread, preferably stale (crusts removed)
  • 2 eggs
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • Salt, a pinch
  • 1/3 cup white sugar
  • 1 tsp cinnamon powder
  • 3 tbsp butter
  • Maple syrup to serve (optional)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the bread sticks: Remove the crusts from each slice of bread, then cut each slice into 3 equal thick batons to form the French toast sticks.
  2. Make the egg mixture: In a bowl large enough to roll the sticks, combine the eggs, milk, and a pinch of salt, whisking until blended.
  3. Combine cinnamon sugar: On a plate, mix the white sugar and cinnamon powder thoroughly.
  4. Preheat the pan: Melt 2 tablespoons of butter in a large pan over medium-high heat, ensuring the butter coats the surface evenly.
  5. Coat the bread sticks: Roll the bread sticks quickly through the egg mixture, making sure not to soak them. Shake off any excess egg mixture before placing them in the pan. Cook in two batches to avoid overcrowding.
  6. Cook until golden: Fry the sticks, turning to cook each side evenly until they turn golden brown.
  7. Coat with cinnamon sugar: Once golden, transfer the hot sticks immediately to the cinnamon sugar plate and roll to coat evenly. It is important to do this step quickly so the sugar sticks properly.
  8. Cook remaining sticks: Melt the remaining tablespoon of butter in the pan and repeat the cooking process with the remaining bread sticks.
  9. Serve: Serve the cinnamon French toast sticks immediately, accompanied by maple syrup for dipping if desired.

Notes

  • Using stale bread helps the sticks hold their shape better without becoming too soggy.
  • Do not soak the bread sticks too long in the egg mixture; a quick dip is enough to coat them while keeping a good texture.
  • Coating the sticks in cinnamon sugar while hot ensures the sugar adheres and adds a delicious flavor.
  • Adjust the amount of butter in the pan as needed to prevent sticking without making the sticks greasy.
  • Maple syrup is optional but adds a classic sweetness that complements the cinnamon flavor.
