Ingredients
Scale
Base Ingredients
- 1/2 cup creamy almond butter
- 3 tablespoons honey
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/2 cup almond flour
- 1 scoop chocolate protein powder
- 2 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1/8 teaspoon sea salt
Chocolate Coating
- 1/2 cup chocolate chips
- 1/2 teaspoon coconut oil
- Flaky sea salt (for sprinkling on top)
Instructions
- Prepare the tray: Line a baking sheet with parchment paper to prevent sticking and set aside.
- Mix wet ingredients: In a large mixing bowl, combine the almond butter, honey, and vanilla extract until the mixture is smooth and homogenous.
- Add dry ingredients: Stir in the almond flour, chocolate protein powder, unsweetened cocoa powder, and sea salt, mixing well until fully combined into a thick dough.
- Form the balls: Using about 1 to 2 tablespoons of the mixture, roll into small balls and place them evenly spaced on the prepared baking sheet.
- Chill to firm up: Freeze the balls for 15 minutes or refrigerate them for 30 minutes until they become firm and easier to coat.
- Melt chocolate coating: In a microwave-safe bowl, melt the chocolate chips with coconut oil by heating in 30-second intervals, stirring between intervals until smooth and glossy.
- Coat the balls: Dip each chilled protein ball into the melted chocolate, allowing any excess chocolate to drip off before returning it to the baking sheet.
- Final chill and garnish: Sprinkle the coated balls with flaky sea salt and refrigerate again for at least an hour to allow the chocolate to set before serving.
Notes
- You can substitute almond butter with peanut butter or cashew butter as per preference.
- For a vegan option, replace honey with maple syrup or agave nectar.
- Store protein balls in an airtight container in the fridge for up to a week or freeze for longer storage.
- If you don’t have parchment paper, lightly grease the baking sheet to avoid sticking.
- Adjust the sweetness by varying the amount of honey to suit taste.
