  3. Cook the Peppers: Drizzle 1 to 2 tablespoons of olive oil over the sliced peppers. Season with salt and black pepper to taste. Place the pan on medium-low heat and cook the peppers gently for 40 to 50 minutes. Stir the peppers every 5 to 10 minutes initially to prevent sticking, increasing the frequency of stirring as the peppers soften and reduce in volume to avoid burning. Continue until the peppers are tender, caramelized, and slightly browned.
