  • Author: lilan
  • Total Time: 10 minutes
  • Yield: 1 serving 1x

Description

Butterfly Pea Milk Tea, also known as Blue Milk Tea, is a visually stunning and refreshing beverage made by steeping vibrant butterfly pea flowers to create a beautiful blue tea base, then layered with a creamy, sweet milk mixture. This drink combines floral notes with the richness of milk for a delightful and unique tea experience that is perfect for hot days or as an eye-catching treat.

Ingredients

Scale

Tea Base

  • a small handful of dried butterfly pea flowers
  • 1/2 cup water

Milk Mixture

  • just under 1 cup fresh milk
  • 1/3 cup sweetened condensed milk
  • 1/3 cup evaporated milk

Others

  • crushed ice (quantity as desired)

Instructions

  1. Boil Water and Steep Flowers: Heat 1/2 cup water in a small saucepan over medium heat until it reaches a rolling boil. Add the dried butterfly pea flowers and steep for 2 minutes, allowing the water to turn a vivid blue color.
  2. Measure Butterfly Pea Extract: Once steeped, measure out 2.70 fl oz (80 ml) of the butterfly pea liquid and set it aside for layering.
  3. Mix Milk Mixture: In a separate container, combine the sweetened condensed milk, evaporated milk, and fresh milk. Stir thoroughly until all ingredients are well blended and smooth.
  4. Prepare the Glass: Fill a tall glass just under halfway with the milk mixture to create the creamy base layer.
  5. Add Ice: Add crushed ice into the glass, filling it but leaving enough space at the top for the butterfly pea extract layering.
  6. Layer Butterfly Pea Tea: Slowly pour the butterfly pea extract over the ice. The liquid will float on top of the milk mixture, creating a distinct and beautiful blue layer.

Notes

  • The layering effect works best when the butterfly pea tea is poured slowly and over ice to prevent mixing.
  • Use fresh milk for the creamiest texture; you can substitute with plant-based milk if desired, but the flavor will differ.
  • Adjust the amount of sweetened condensed milk to your preferred sweetness level.
  • Butterfly pea flower tea is caffeine-free and provides antioxidants.
  • This drink is best served immediately to enjoy the color contrast before the layers blend.
