Description

A hearty and comforting Biscuits and Gravy Casserole made with flaky biscuit dough, savory sausage, fluffy eggs, and creamy peppered gravy. This breakfast casserole layers biscuits, cooked sausage, shredded cheese, and eggs, all topped with rich sausage gravy, making it a perfect dish for brunch or a satisfying family breakfast.

Ingredients

Scale

Biscuit Base

  • 8 count package of biscuit dough (we used Pillsbury Grands, slightly bigger size)

Sausage and Gravy

  • 1 lb pork sausage, any flavor
  • 1 (2 3/4 ounce) package peppered gravy mix (makes approximately 2 cups)
  • 1/2 cup milk

Egg Mixture

  • 6 large eggs
  • 1 cup shredded cheese (your choice, cheddar recommended)
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Preheat and Prepare Pan: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 13×9-inch baking pan to prevent sticking.
  2. Brown the Sausage: In a skillet over medium heat, brown the pork sausage until fully cooked and browned, breaking it up into crumbles as it cooks. Drain any excess fat thoroughly to avoid greasiness in the casserole.
  3. Prepare Biscuit Layer: Cut the biscuit dough into 1-inch pieces and evenly distribute them as the base layer in the greased baking pan.
  4. Add Sausage Layer: Spread the cooked sausage crumbles evenly over the biscuit dough pieces in the pan.
  5. Cheese Layer: Sprinkle the shredded cheese uniformly over the sausage layer to add creamy richness.
  6. Mix and Pour Egg Mixture: In a mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, salt, and pepper until smooth. Pour this mixture evenly over the biscuit, sausage, and cheese layers in the pan.
  7. Prepare Gravy: Prepare the peppered gravy according to the package instructions, usually by combining the mix with milk and cooking until thickened. Once ready, pour the gravy evenly over the entire casserole.
  8. Bake: Bake the casserole in the preheated oven for 35 to 45 minutes, or until the eggs are fully set and the biscuits are cooked through and golden.
  9. Serve: Let the casserole cool slightly, then serve warm. Leftovers can be refrigerated and reheated for a flavorful breakfast anytime.

Notes

  • Use Pillsbury Grands biscuits or similar for best texture and size.
  • Be sure to drain the sausage well to avoid excess grease in the casserole.
  • Adjust seasoning with salt and pepper according to taste, especially if your gravy mix is already salted.
  • Feel free to substitute cheddar cheese with your preferred type such as mozzarella or pepper jack for variation.
  • This casserole can be made ahead and refrigerated, but add the gravy just before baking to keep textures optimal.
  • Leftovers keep well in the fridge for up to 3 days and can be reheated in the oven or microwave.
