Ingredients

Scale

Cake Ingredients

  • 1 (15.25 oz) box white cake mix
  • 1 (3.4 oz) box instant vanilla pudding mix
  • 4 egg whites
  • 1 cup milk
  • ⅔ cup sour cream
  • ½ cup vegetable oil
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • ¼ teaspoon almond extract
  • Pinch of salt
  • Food coloring (green and purple)

Filling Ingredients

  • 2 cups heavy cream
  • 12 ounces cream cheese, softened
  • 1 ⅓ cup powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Assembly Ingredients

  • 40 Oreos (divided)
  • Sprinkles for garnish

Instructions

  1. Make the Cake: Preheat your oven to 350ºF. Line two 8-inch round cake pans with parchment paper and spray with nonstick cooking spray. In a large mixing bowl, combine all the cake ingredients except the food coloring and stir until smooth. The batter will be thick.
  2. Dye the Batter: Divide the batter evenly into two separate bowls. Add green food coloring to one bowl and purple to the other, stirring each until fully incorporated.
  3. Bake the Cakes: Pour each colored batter into the prepared pans and bake for 28-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. Allow the cakes to cool completely, then cut them into bite-sized cubes.
  4. Prepare the Whipped Cream: In a well-chilled mixing bowl fitted with a whisk attachment, beat the heavy cream until stiff peaks form. Transfer the whipped cream to another bowl and refrigerate to keep chilled.
  5. Make the Cream Cheese Filling: Using the mixer bowl, beat the softened cream cheese until smooth. Add the powdered sugar and vanilla extract, and continue beating until fully combined and smooth.
  6. Combine Filling with Whipped Cream: Add about a quarter of the whipped cream to the cream cheese mixture and beat to combine. Then, remove the bowl from the mixer and gently fold in the remaining whipped cream using a spatula until fully incorporated. Transfer this filling to a pastry bag fitted with a large round tip or a gallon-sized ziplock bag with a corner cut off.
  7. Assemble the Trifles: In each jar, place a layer of green cake cubes followed by a layer of coarsely chopped Oreos (use 16 Oreos divided among 8 jars). Pipe half of the cream filling evenly over the Oreo layer. Next, add the purple cake cubes as another layer, followed by another layer of chopped Oreos (another 16 Oreos evenly divided). Pipe the remaining filling on top.
  8. Garnish: Top each trifle jar with one whole Oreo and sprinkles for a festive finish.

Notes

  • You can prepare the cake and filling a day ahead to save time on assembly day.
  • Use a sharp knife to cut the cake into even cubes for neat layers.
  • Keep the bowls and beaters chilled to help the heavy cream whip properly.
  • Feel free to substitute vegan or dairy-free ingredients for dietary preferences.
  • The trifles are best served chilled and consumed within 2 days for optimal freshness.
