For the burgers:
- 2 pounds ground beef (80-85% lean)
- 1 large egg
- 1/2 cup old-fashioned or quick oats
- 1/4 cup cold milk or cold water
- 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper
For assembling:
- 1 cup BBQ sauce (homemade or store-bought)
- 1–2 sweet onions, sliced
Instructions
- Preheat Oven: Preheat the oven to 350°F (190°C) and lightly grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
- Mix the Burger Meat: In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, egg, oats, milk or water, onion powder, garlic powder, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper. Mix gently until just combined.
- Shape: Form the mixture into 6-8 patties and place them in the prepared baking dish.
- Brown Patties (Optional): Lightly brown the patties in a skillet before baking, if desired.
- Top and Sauce: Spoon BBQ sauce over each patty and place onion slices on top.
- Bake: Bake for 45 minutes, basting the patties with BBQ sauce and pan juices during cooking until the internal temperature reaches 160°F.
- Serve: Let the burgers rest for 5 minutes before serving on buns with extra BBQ sauce or pair with mashed potatoes and green beans.
